Jason Kottke is the blogger that got his readers to pay him for a year, so that he could blog. The only problem was, the particular year didn’t really differ from the ones before content wise. Jason chose not to continue the experiment…

Anyway, my favorite thing with Jason’s blog isn’t his regular blogging, but the linkage he provides. Lots of links, and often several times every day with an insight. So when he’s bringing out a big fat list with the best ones of 2006 you know you’ll loose both sleep and working hours.

Compiling a list of the best things I’ve linked to from kottke.org seems to get harder each year. I estimate posting about 2400 links to kottke.org in 2006, which is roughly one link every 2.5 hours on weekdays. Which is insane…I don’t know how you guys read all of that.

Google blogging team looks back on a year of blogging

More for the numerically inclined: 7.6 million unique visitors generated nearly 15 million pageviews this year. Aside from the U.S. and UK, readers come from India, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Italy and the Netherlands. Which sites send us the most readers? The top non-Google referrers this year are the influential Digg.com and Slashdot.

While you might not have such huge numbers. Remember blogging is about evangelising your customer base, increasing your friend base, and sharing your opinion. Don’t be shy. Be real.

Mike Arrington, HitWise, Gigaom and a bunch of other folks including me now all are talking about useless numbers comparing Google Blog Search to Technorati. Does anyone really care? I know I don’t. In fact I think they do entirely different things. I use technorati feeds more than anything. I use Google Blog Search when I’m bored out of my mind and am looking for something new. Comscore, Hitwise, Blogpulse, and Alexa are all pretty useless but they make great egoboosters when things are good, and can sure make you feel crappy when the numbers aren’t leaning your way.

2006 Sure was the year of the blog. Can it get any better or bigger than what we have done already?

As Time magazine hammered home this month, you had an incredible year.

Blogs and other citizenry-generated media dominated discourse in 2006, and mainstream media had no choice but to clear a spot at the grown-up’s table. Twentysomethings in their PJs attracted as much — if not more — attention than some cable news channels, while YouTube cost businesses millions of dollars in distraction and procrastination.

But to limit discussion of the topic to ephemeral entertainment would be a grave disservice (just ask the geniuses behind “Snakes on a Plane” how valuable that is). Bloggers transcended their medium in substantial ways that had real effects on society at large.

It’s the end of the year. People that know me know how much I’d love to make gazillions of dollars. In order to keep adsense off the front page and off the article pages of the main 901am site for an entire year I need people to be extremely generous to 901am. I’m not going to ask for money. Just as the title explores I want you to Add us to Technorati. You can find it in the sidebar or below each post. If we reach the top 25 you can rest assured you won’t be seeing any adsense on the main portions of 901am for an entire year.

Now get busy adding us to the favorites. Call it my Christmas Wish.
