The interface is pretty slick, sharing is pretty easy. Overall one of the slickest video hosting services I’ve seen on the web. And its located right here near 901am HQ.

That video I’m using as a sample is pretty slick too. I had to pick myself off the floor a few times. Not the first time Devin has done this though. I think he went to the viral video learning center. I like the fact that Viddler keeps it simple. And has done a good job of allowing users to upload larger files than YouTube and others.

My favorite feature is the ability to leave comment/tags right on the video and to be able to link directly to that part of the video. This is something I’ve long wished for in just about every other video hosting service out there. Hopefully Viddler will go a long ways to gaining some traction on the web.

I didn’t know this, but it appears that Ze Frank goes to Hollywood.

On March 17, Cobble Hill–based Web prankster Ze Frank will end his daily, year-long Internet video show to go all Hollywood. “The one thing I took away from my meeting with Jeffrey Katzenberg is that the work begins now,” said Mr. Frank, who was accidentally rewarded with fame after a jokey video, “How to Dance Properly,” went utterly viral in 2001.

Online messaging multi-platform service Meebo is cool. It lets you chat in your web browser using your account at a number of popular IM services, including ICQ and MSN. I’ve used it from time to time, especially when I’m at someone else’s computer.

Another $9m in funding will increase staff (they’re 10 now, apparently) and also make a new API a reality for developers who wants to integrate with the Meebo service.

But where to next? 1 million registered Meebo users is of course a lot, but surely there are grander schemes at web IM headquarters? Here are some thoughts on what Meebo might be doing in the future:

• Take on MyBlogLog and make sure that Meebo is in every blog sidebar
• Meebo Enterprise, giving companies and online stores a live chat with its customers, with possible integration with the store
• Meebo Out Load make voice chat accessible everywhere
• Webcam support for all IM protocols
• A stand-alone Meebo client, built upon open-source kick-ass IM program Gaim, further ties users to the service
• Meebo signs a deal with Google, delivering relevant Adsense ads on the Meebo page, based on your messages just like Gmail does

Where will Meebo end up, and who will buy it? I’d count Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and AOL out since they really don’t want to open up IM more than what’s benefits their own respective services.

I’ve watched this video a few times. I’m not a fan of pre roll advertising on video. Fox Tampa has some solid video of Police cutting homeless tents. This is in and of itself very disturbing. What was more disturbing was an add for Fast Home Solutions. I almost vomitted. I’m so pissed off at the commercialization of this incident.

Can someone please tell me this isn’t wrong?

Update: Good to see some people reacting to this incident. I’m still shocked over the pre roll advertising.

Roughly a month and a half ago. I quit The Blog Herald. My daily duties mostly were to cover the world of videoblogging. I also helped Matt Craven with various strategic elements and some advertising development on occassion. At one point I was apart of the ownership of The Blog Herald. Leaving was a difficult decision. I left mostly because I felt like I was misled by the new ownership.

Within a few days of my decision to leave I left it open to a few bloggers that if they didn’t feel The Blog Herald was a good fit they were more than willing an open to pursue blogging here at 901am.

To some this is viewed as stealing writers. To me its about being apart of the community and supporting the people I will always stand by. And continuing a legacy. I don’t regret this decision one iota. [Read more…]
