BigCarrot gives bloggers ways to crowdsource advocacy with inducement prizes

BigCarrot is offering bloggers an opportunity to advocate for their causes through the creation of inducement prize on the BigCarrot web site. Bloggers who are looking to spur innovation or promote change are invited to submit their inducement prize concept(s). Once concepts are received, BigCarrot will choose ten prizes, from among the submissions, for inclusion on the BigCarrot site. As part of the promotion, BigCarrot will waive the initial inducement prize fee of $100. In addition, BigCarrot will help launch the prizes with a minimum initial contribution of $250. The value of the prizes will increase once interest and demand for the prize grows among the site’s visitors.

BigCarrot welcomes inducement prize concepts in the areas of: computers, electronics, environment, mathematics, household, medicine, science, society and sports. Proposals are being accepted until June 15, 2008.

Washingtonpost.com adds TechCrunch to its technology section

Washingtonpost.com is now including TechCrunch in its technology section. TechCrunch is expected to provide Washingtonpost.com readers with daily news and insights on technology.

TechCrunch joins Rafat Ali’s Paidcontent.org among popular blogs in the technology section. This makes Washingtonpost.com th first news site to syndicate TechCrunch content.

Blogged.com endorses Obama blogs

Blogged.com is dipping into politics, announcing today a list of the top 10 blogs for the Democratic presidential candidates. After evaluating the list, coupled with “thorough analysis,” Blogged.com concluded that the top Obama blogs were found to be of higher quality than the top Clinton blogs. The basis: content quality, frequency of updates, site design, and writing style. There is no margin of error here because this is not a survey, but there is definitely personal biases (like me having a bias on Obama).

LiveJournal wants you to join its Advisory Board

LiveJournal is opening nominations for its first ever Advisory Board user elections. LiveJournal, Inc. has allocated two positions on the Board for elected representatives from its user base, a unique effort that is seen as giving users a role in developing its service.

The elected users will join a distinguished group of social media influencers on the current Advisory Board: Danah Boyd, Esther Dyson, Brad Fitzpatrick and Lawrence Lessig.

Users will be elected for an annual term, with the right to stand for re-election the following year. The Advisory Board will hold quarterly meetings via conference call and meet at least once a year to consider the challenges and opportunities for the LiveJournal community. The management of LiveJournal has formally committed to listen and engage with the board members and reflect their discussions in the executive decisions that they make.

It’s a good effort from LiveJournal and we can only hope that this would serve as precedent to other groups.
