Top Searches for 2007 according to AOL

Following the release of Yahoo’s Top Search Trends in 2007, AOL has also released their own version dubbed as Top Searches for 2007 to catch a glimpse of what’s on the minds of people around the globe.

As captured by the pie chart in the image below, weather was the most popular general term on AOL Search for the second straight year.

Also, WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, the Apple iPhone and Britney Spears appeared at the top of the News, Gadget and Celebrity search lists.

American Idol showed no signs of slipping from the top of the most-searched TV shows list; and Hillary Clinton emerged as the front-runner on the Top Politicians list.

The unique combination of online viral videos and editorial commentary from Top Gossip Blogs like TMZ created a breed of celebrities whose accidental online celebrity led to offline fame. Topping this year’s inaugural most-searched for “Accidental Celebrity” list is socialite-turned-reality-TV-star, Kim Kardashian.

CBS Radio and Truveo partner to bring online videos to local radio station websites

As part of the partnership, more than 35 CBS Radio stations spanning several different formats and markets across the country have integrated Truveo’s video search engine online with more scheduled to launch in the coming weeks.

Visitors to CBS Radio’s websites will be able to search and browse through tens of millions of videos from thousands of sources across the Web. In addition to indexing user-generated video from popular video uploading sites such as YouTube and Dailymotion, Truveo also features a wide selection of high-quality, professionally produced video from many of the world’s major media brands. For example, Truveo’s video sources include: CBS, ABC, BBC, CNBC, CNN, Disney, FOX, Le Monde, MTV, NBC, NFL.com, Skynews and hundreds more.

AOL Money & Finance launches all new investing site

AOL unveiled its new Money & Finance beta site which offers an all-new suite of investing tools, including, real-time news headlines from more than 3,000 sources, interactive charts, in-depth research data, automatic stock price updates and a new easy-to-navigate format. In the coming weeks and months, the site will continue to improve with a number of new interactive features and tools for online investors.

The site’s real-time streaming company news is provided by Relegence which was acquired by AOL in 2006. With Relegence-powered real-time market-moving news and information, AOL Money & Finance now offers the fastest and most comprehensive intelligence about North American equities, giving users access to more than 3,000 news and information sources including national and regional print coverage, trade publications, government sources and blogs in a customizable interface.

Additionally, users will now be alerted in real-time when a company is “hot,” as measured by higher than average news volume at any given time. This Relegence-enabled proprietary and patent-pending “heat indicator” provides investors with immediate insights into which stocks are driving the coverage of news organizations and blogs.

Userplane partners with network and cable companies to deliver enhanced social networking and messaging services

New broadcast partners Channel 4 (UK), The CW, FUEL TV and IFC will be using Userplane customizable communication tools, such as Webchat, Minichat and Webmessenger to further develop their online communities and increase the reach of their global fan-base by giving viewers a new interactive way to enjoy their favorite shows.

AOL introduces video ticker ads

aol.pngAOL announced the availability of video ticker ads, a new interactive video advertising solution that serves as a creative alternative to pre-roll ads that was developed in conjunction with PointRoll, the leading provider of rich media technology solutions.

AOL’s video ticker ad is a graphic banner ad that is integrated within a streaming video, but without obstructing the video viewing experience. When clicked on by a consumer, the ticker expands to launch a video ad, or an interactive Flash ad, within the video player window. These ads will run across the AOL Network of premium video content within the newest version of the AOL Video media player platform.

Also released with the video ticker ads is a newly revamped media player platform which introduces several new and improved features, including:

• A single flexible experience: Sharing and social utilities – such as email, bookmarking and related videos – are available from the player view port;

• Multiple monetization options: New ad inventory includes 300 x 250 interstitials, video ticker ads and synched text ads;

• A new user interface and development framework: The new UI streamlines the control set and improves customization options, while the new development framework simplifies adding new features.
