Nokia to acquire Trolltech to speed up software strategy

Nokia and Trolltech ASA have entered into an agreement that Nokia will make a public voluntary tender offer to acquire Trolltech. Trolltech is a recognized software provider with world-class software development platforms and frameworks. In addition to the key software assets, its talented team will play an important role in accelerating the implementation of Nokia’s softwarestrategy.

The acquisition of Trolltech will enable Nokia to accelerate its cross-platform software strategy for mobile devices and desktop applications, and develop its Internet services business. With Trolltech, Nokia and third party developers will be able to develop applications that work in the Internet, across Nokia’s device portfolio and on PCs. Nokia’s software strategy for devices is based on cross-platform development environments, layers of software that run across operating systems, enabling the development of applications across the Nokia device range.

IAC acquires minority stake in The HealthCentral Network

IAC has acquired a significant minority stake in The HealthCentral Network. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

The HealthCentral Network is a collection of over 30 owned and operated condition-specific and healthy living websites that combine authoritative health information with tight-knit communities of people, bringing together patients and experts to share wisdom and personal experience. The move marks a major push into the online health information space, and allows IAC to capitalize on THCN’s highly integrated online properties deeply focused on strong consumer-engagement.

In addition to the minority stake, Barry Diller and Peter Horan, CEO of IAC’s Media & Advertising sector, will serve on HealthCentral’s Board. In addition to this appointment, Mr. Horan will maintain responsibility for overseeing IAC’s health efforts.

PayPal acquires Fraud Sciences Ltd.

fraudsciences.pngeBay Inc. announced that PayPal has agreed to acquire Fraud Sciences Ltd., a privately-held Israeli company with expertise in online risk tools, in a cash transaction with an aggregate transaction value of approximately $169 million. Fraud Sciences’ risk tools and analytics are expected to enhance eBay and PayPal’s proprietary fraud management systems and accelerate the development of next generation fraud detection tools.

The acquisition fits into eBay’s recently announced plans to significantly improve trust and safety across its sites in 2008.

The Anywhere.FM desktop uploader enables users to quickly and easily upload their personal MP3 collections to the Web and stream their favorite artists, songs and playlists from any browser. Consumers can upload individual songs or use Anywhere.FM’s uploader to upload their entire iTunes, WinAmp, or Windows Media Player libraries, including personal playlists, song ratings and play counts, with a single click. Users’ libraries are then accessible through a full-featured web music player complete with smart playlists, visualizers, and dynamic search. Anywhere.FM has also created a sophisticated “Friend Radio” feature that lets users discover new music by streaming playlists their friends and other users have uploaded. In addition, Anywhere.FM’s recommendation engine lets users search for people with similar music tastes.

Dell completes acquisition of EqualLogic

Dell has completed its $1.4 billion acquisition of EqualLogic. Dell plans to preserve and build on EqualLogic’s successful channel program in addition to offering products directly from Dell. Starting today in the United States and ultimately around the world, current EqualLogic partners will be enrolled into PartnerDirect and eligible for Dell’s newest certification.
