I’m a big fan of logos, they’re important and should not be taken lightly. Your logo is your brand is your presence, just like your web page design is part of your brand. In my opinion it’s more important to have a logo that sends the right message, than a kick ass design. And that’s from the designer in me talking.
That’s BBC America’s new logo. It’s a pretty strong one, very visible and using both blue and red in a manner that works (don’t try that at home, folks). Also works as a favicon which is great online. It’s interesting to see how BBC America goes after the whole target style, the logo not being too far from the British Royal Air Force (RAF you know) symbol. Brand New have found other symbols doing more or less the same thing.
BBC America won’t have to worry though, they’re a big player with strong means to reach out with their logo. They will own their sphere with it I’m sure, and we’ll associate that bullet style with them like it always has been there.
You don’t have that luxury. Create an original logo and go from there, not the other way around.
