I knew that b5media had secret forums for internal communication, the trackbacks over at Bloggertalks told as much. But not having a user account, or even being able to get one, stopped me short of knowing what was being said. I’d reckon I won’t get to know that anytime soon either, since they probably still have closed forums for internal b5 stuff. That is, by the way, a great way to collaborate that I’ve been using for quite some time on various projects.
From the launch post:
You can ask authors questions, give us feedback (positive or negative, constructive or otherwise) and just hang out. As with all b5media “featuresâ€, if you don’t like it or need it, let us know! We’re huge believers in trying things out and, whether or not they fail, making them better.
The b5 forums run on vBulletin, a solid commercial forum software solution. That’s not my choice, but I’m an open source buff with some sort of control disorder, so… I’d recommend the b5 crew to integrate the forums into the main b5media site as well, that looks better to me. Still, it’s a clean look so I won’t bitch too much about it. Check them out. I’m looking forward to see how the forums will be used. In my mind b5 is a big enough network to gain from a central communication spot (i.e. the forums), but only if the members want to drive traffic to them, and participate.

Yeah, we’ll likely reskin the forums at some point to more closely align with the main site. Not really in a hurry for now though :)

No, I can understand that. Being given the choice of launching un-skinned right now, or not launching for quite some time, I would go with the former one.
