Blogging Pro releases sponsored WordPress theme

InSense themeYou know all those crappy WordPress themes that litter the web, the ones that just are in the way of the good ones you want to find in the WordPress Theme Viewer? Well, there is a good reason for the lack of more kickass WordPress themes: They take time to develop. Doing good design is not only hard work, it is most often expensive.

Blogging Pro’s David Peralty e-mailed me about the release of their second WordPress theme, titled InSense. While we don’t usually cover theme releases here at 901am, this one is a bit more interesting, and it’s not just because David sent me two e-mails about it.

You see, the theme comes with a sponsor link at the bottom, and the folks over at Blogging Pro, who are doing the actual release, aren’t shy about it. Lots of themes cram in affiliate links and whatnot in their themes, but few of them admit that they are trying to leech on unknowing users.

Microsoft enters mobile browser war

War? What mobile browser war? I don’t know, but they sure are entering it with Deepfish.

Instead of loading simplistic WAP pages, Deepfish displays the full web page as a thumbnail. It then lets the user zoom in and out transferring only the portions their interested in to save bandwidth and improve page load times. The technology is currently in ‘preview release’ and a long way from commercial release.

Isn’t that kind of like Opera? Anyway, it’s probably a good thing that Microsoft bothers with the mobile internet, that’s a hint of what’s to come. Let’s take the leap, folks! 2007 is the year of the mobile, I’ve said that before.

Habari 0.1 is out, you probably don’t want it

I’ve written about the Habari project before. It’s a blogging platform, sort of like WordPress. Habari sports some impressive support as you’ll see if you enjoy our archives here at 901am, but other than that it has a lot to prove.

Enter the Habari 0.1, a Developers Release as the folks at Habari put it. Download and try it out, although I wouldn’t run it on a public site nor do the developers suggest you do.

As I’ve said previously I’m following the Habari development. It will be interesting to see if this actually will be a serious option to WordPress or not.
