Well, technology show CES is at it again, with interesting keynotes and marvelous gadgets. Also, the 40th anniversary is something to celebrate for techy geeks around the globe.

And as usual it’s being blogged as we speak. We get to read about Nokia and Vox, how Microsoft will bring Windows servers to our homes, gaming laptops, and computer gear over our heads.

I recommend Engadget’s dedicated CES 2007 page, as well as the relevant tags over at Gizmodo and girly gadget site Shiny Shiny. Also, Ars Technica has some in-depth coverage and ZDNet offers CES news as well. And that is, of course, just the tip of the iceberg, as a quick search on Digg and del.icio.us will prove.

A bunch of WordPress profiles have jumped ship to work with a new open source blogging platform, titled Habari.

Habari represents a fresh start to the idea of blogging. The system is fast, easy to use, and easy to modify. New users should have no problem using and enjoying Habari. Advanced users should have no problem tweaking Habari to do exactly what they need it to do.

Habari relies on PHP5 with PHP Data Objects (PDO), and your choice of SQL database (MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite). Habari is strongly object oriented, and implements the full suite of the Atom Publishing Protocol. User-created plugins make Habari do nearly anything imaginable, and a robust theme system permits the use of several popular templating solutions.

Chris J Davies and Khaled Abou Alfa are working on the design interface, and Kubrick designer Michael Heilemann is on-board as well. Other names include Scott Merrill, Owen Winkler and Bryan Veloso. There’s probably more, I’m piecing this together from IM chats, e-mails and these guys’ blog posts.

Will Habari stand a chance? Well, of course, it might even kick ass. PHP5 offers a lot and WordPress, the main competitor if any, needs a bit of cleanup. Still, Habari is far from launch with just SVN versions to show, so we’ll see. Personally, I’ll follow this one closely.

What is a Google Data Center?
A Google data center is a group of computers used to run Googles’ search engine. The data centers receive a query from the search interface, calculate the results, then deliver those results back to your browser.

OK, so this isn’t anything new, but if you’re curious about the service that probably sends you the majority of new readers then it’s an interesting read. Don’t expect any inside information on how to game Google though.

This is so stupid. Apparently there’s a bunch of Wikipedia users that are trying to have blog related entries removed. This is their criteria for a non-notable blog from the War on Blogs page:

1. Is it an article about a blog?
2. Is the article title the blog title?
3. Is the blog’s first hit on google when searching for the said blog title?
4. Can most of the “about” info be gathered from clicking “about” link on the blog?
5. Is the rest of the shit inane garbage blatantly promoting the said blog?

I came across this via Bloggers Blog, who points to the Matt Cutts page on Wikipedia, now marked as being considered for deletion. Other pages that are on the War on Blogs user’s death list include pages about FeedBurner and Podcasting by traditional broadcasters. I don’t agree with any of the two.

Now, of course there are pages on Wikipedia submitted by bloggers in hope of getting free coverage and links, I’m not saying there isn’t. However, this crusade is ridiculous and should be dealt with accordingly.
