Peace One Day unveils “digiwristband” to create the world’s largest peace community

peace.jpg Jeremy Gilley, British filmmaker and founder of Peace One Day, today officially launches the world’s first “digiwristband” to unite and inspire other individuals across the globe to make a commitment for Peace Day on 21 September 2007.

The Peace One Day “digiwristband” represents a digital evolution of the rubber wristband phenomenon spearheaded by Lance Armstrong. This gives digitally connected global community an environmentally-friendly way to express and share their commitment to peace through their websites, blogs, email signatures, MySpace or Facebook profiles and screen savers, creating the planet’s largest ever peace community in support of Peace Day 21 September.

People can create their own “digiwristband”, make their personal pledge towards peace and become a peacemaker by visiting the site. All peacemakers will receive access to exclusive digital content, streamed in partnership with Brightcove, a leading Internet TV service provider.

Peace One Day began as a film project founded by British filmmaker Jeremy Gilley in 1999 to establish the first ever-annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence. In 2001 it was unanimously adopted by UN member states and celebrated 21st of September annually as Peace Day.

Nokia eyeing acquisition of Twango

twango.jpg Aiming to strengthen its corporate and multimedia offering through acquisitions, top mobile phone maker Nokia is very interested to buy Twango, a photo-sharing social networking Website. However, price is not yet disclosed.

“The Twango acquisition is a concrete step towards our Internet services vision of providing seamless access to information, entertainment, and social networks,” Anssi Vanjoki, head of Nokia’s multimedia unit said in a statement.

Introduced in 2004, Twango lags behind popular sites like Flickr, PhotoBucket, and YouTube based on data from Hitwise and Alexa.
