memri.jpgMiddle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI) has announced the launch of a new blog called The MEMRI Economic Blog that will focus on economic news and developments in the Middle East and North Africa, specifically all Arabic-speaking countries and Iran.

It aims to help elucidate economic aspects and developments of this pivotal region, with its enormous natural resources, particularly oil, and its strategic importance.

“The Middle East has been on everyone’s radar screen for a long time, but often for the wrong reasons. For most readers of the Western press, coverage of the Middle East region is perceived as an arena for conflict, wars, religious extremism and terrorism, and coverage is overshadowed by this,” said MEMRI senior analyst and blog editor Nimrod Rapaheli. “But there are many positive stories of economic development and hope here. The MEMRI Economic Blog will shed light on these stories and the entrepreneurial spirit that is alive and well in this critically important region of the world,” he continued.

Secure Our Future launches site for 2008 presidential candidates

This Web site features original video interviews and research conducted by Students for Saving Social Security, a project of Secure Our Future. In addition to making clear the position of each candidate on Social Security reform, the site includes information about upcoming events, ways to get involved on campus and voter registration.

List turnover a major challenge for email marketers

Email marketers feel like they’re taking two steps forward and one step back when it comes to growing address lists, according to a recent JupiterResearch survey commissioned by a premier email service provider Silverpop.

Based in this online survey conducted last June, nearly four out of 10 email marketers (39 percent) said list turnover is their biggest challenge. The survey titled 2006 Email List Growth Survey polled 300 email marketers about their challenges and the assistance they seek from email service providers. It repeated a similar survey conducted last year, when marketers said the ability to analyze campaigns results was their most difficult challenge.

“Concerns over list growth aren’t necessarily new, but it’s interesting that it’s become a top concern for email marketers,” said Elaine O’Gorman, vice president of strategy for Silverpop. “Growing a strong database of customers and prospects is obviously the core part of any strong email marketing program. All elements of sophisticated email marketing – segmentation, personalization, dynamic content, lifestyle marketing and more – depend upon the quantity and quality of the email list.”

BBC iPlayer launches

bbc.jpgBBC, one of the biggest broadcasting corporations in the world, has launched to the general public its own on-demand TV service, BBC iPlayer.

This new service allows viewers to download programs for the last 7 days and will have the opportunity watch them for up to 30 days. Once watched, these programs will be automatically deleted.

However, it is still in its beta phase and full marketing is slated in autumn. Interested viewers need to register at the site to get invitations.

“It’s a revolutionary service which offers audiences more value, because from now on they never have to miss out on their favourite programmes – or those that they didn’t previously have the opportunity to try,” said Jana Bennett, Director of BBC Vision.

BBC iPlayer is far more than a standalone application. Later this year, it will become widely accessible across bbc.co.uk, as well as via links from YouTube and a number of other potential distribution partners. These potential partners include MSN, telegraph.co.uk, AOL, Tiscali, Yahoo!, MySpace, Blinkx and Bebo.
