This new social networking site empowers every ranter and hater to declare a Jihad or holy war against anything and everything that annoys us, no matter how trivial or stupid.

Although the name is insidious by context, it doesn’t encourage any acts of terrorism. All you have to do is fill out the jihad declaration form, write the name of your enemy, choose a category, and let all your feelings out.

Some of the funny jihads in this site talk about Ann Coulter, iPhone early adopters, Internet Explorer 6, and online applications. Even this site did not escape from “jihads” (see image above).

While this is intended mainly for humor and personal expression, there is something dangerous in this controversial site. I’ve seen some “jihads” about specific persons or companies. It might unfairly tarnish the online reputation of some people or organization, which might lead to some legal scuffle. Maybe a moderator is needed to control some of the contents.

Msnbc.com acquires Newsvine

newsvine1.gifMsnbc.com has acquired social news site Newsvine.com to “foster a community among its readers and to exploit the power of unmoderated user commentary and ranking of the news.”

Both parties declined to disclose the value of this all-cash transaction. Moreover, msnbc intends to keep Newsvine an independent site and will only help expand its user base.

“We want to understand [Newsvine’s technology and processes], but we don’t have any agenda. Where companies get into trouble is when they try to impose big-company standards in small companies,” said MSNBC Interactive News president Charlie Tillinghast in a news release.

According to Newsvine Blog, this acquisition means so many good things such as increased exposure for Newsvine writers, bigger community, improvements on speed and reliability, more news, and slightly bigger staff.

Let’s help the Interpol track the notorious pedophile

For the first time in history, the Interpol is asking the help of the international public to identify the man (see picture below) who has appeared in more than 200 photos abusing 12 young boys.

Thanks to the powerful technology of Bundeskriminalamt (BKA), Germany’s federal police agency, the digitally altered photograph was fixed to produce an identifiable image.

Despite the extensive network of this agency in 186 countries, it has failed to identify the name and nationality of this pedophile. Hence, they have no choice but to appeal to the public.

“We have very good reason to believe that he travels the world in order to sexually abuse and exploit vulnerable children and, as a 186-member country police organisation, Interpol is uniquely positioned to co-ordinate this global effort to identify and bring him to justice,” said Interpol secretary general Ronald K Noble.
