CBSSports.com tops 100 million visits for September

cbssports.jpgCBSSports.com, an Internet sports media service and part of CBS Interactive, revealed that CBSSports.com recorded over 100 million visits during the month of September, the first time in company history that mark has been reached.

If recent traffic trends among the major sports sites continue, September will mark the sixth consecutive month that CBSSports.com has finished first in both visits per person and minutes per person.

According to Nielsen//NetRatings, in August 2007 CBSSports.com recorded 7.93 visits per person, the fifth consecutive month they have led that category among major sports sites. Additionally, according to Nielsen//NetRatings, in August 2007 CBSSports.com recorded a total of one hour and one minute of site consumption per person, the sixth consecutive month they have led that category among major sports sites. To put that figure in perspective, no other major sports site recorded over 40 minutes of consumption per person

Yahoo!, eBay and PayPal join forces to protect consumers against e-mail fraud and phishing scams

email.jpgYahoo!, eBay and PayPal today announced a collaborative effort to better protect consumers against fraudulent e-mails and the dangerous scams known as phishing attacks. Starting today, eBay and PayPal customers worldwide using Yahoo! Mail will begin receiving fewer fake e-mails claiming to be sent by eBay and PayPal. Yahoo! Mail is the first web mail service to block these types of malicious messages for eBay and PayPal through the use of DomainKeys e-mail authentication technology.

DomainKeys technology provides a unique way to verify the authenticity of e-mail messages, allowing Internet service providers to determine if messages are real and should be delivered to a customer’s inbox. The collaborative effort between Yahoo!, eBay and PayPal will result in the blocking of unauthenticated e-mail, reducing the volume of fraudulent e-mail received by consumers and lowering their risk of falling for phishing attacks.

Yahoo!, eBay and PayPal are in the process of transitioning their systems from DomainKeys to the proposed standard DomainKeys Identified Mail. The implementation is expected to be complete in the coming months.

The technology upgrade will be rolled out globally over the next several weeks to all users of Yahoo! Mail.

Reactrix, Ruckus Nation to get kids moving with online competition

Reactrix Systems, Inc., the interactive out-of-home advertising and entertainment media company, announced its partnership with HopeLab, the nonprofit organization behind Ruckus Nation, an international online idea competition to get kids moving.
 
The Reactrix advertising network allows the public to engage with brands featured on displays throughout public locations in a fun, interactive way. Its breakthrough technology projects vivid, high-definition digital images that instantly respond as people walk by or gesture over the display. This interaction creates an immersive media experience that makes floors, walls and tabletops come to life. Reactrix has worked with companies like AOL, DaimlerChrysler, eBay and others, to create interactive ad campaigns in public areas where people can physically interact with the displays.

Ruckus Nation is an online competition challenging participants to imagine innovative products that will increase physical activity among middle-school-aged kids, ages 11 to 14. More than $300,000 in prizes will be awarded. HopeLab will support the development, testing and distribution of products based on the best ideas.
 
Ruckus Nation participants must register no later than October 15 and must submit their ideas online no later than November 20, 2007. Winners will be announced in March 2008.

NYTimes.com introduces new section on Health and Wellness

well.jpgNYTimes.com launched today its expanded section that blends the latest journalism with searchable reference on an extensive range of medical conditions and health topics. The section features original reports on scientific research and controversial health issues, as well as comprehensive reference articles, animations, videos, podcasts, slide shows, Web-only columns and interactive tools, all designed to enable readers to make informed decisions about their health. Topics include everything from health maintenance issues, like weight loss and exercise tips, to acute and chronic diseases, like cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease.

Tara Parker-Pope, who recently joined The New York Times as a health columnist, writes a new blog called “Well” that provides practical advice designed to help readers take action to improve their health. The blog includes a daily lunch-time item called “What’s On Your Plate,” with timely comments on food and nutrition. Additional postings throughout the day will cover a spectrum of common concerns – family health and relationships, useful health products and gadgets, new research on medical treatments, and insights into weight loss and exercise. Some of the topics Ms. Parker-Pope will focus on initially are the health significance of genes versus lifestyle and which matters most, as well as the health risks posed to women who “self silence” during arguments with their husbands.

In addition to medical news, NYTimes.com/health features articles about the political aspects and financial issues surrounding healthcare, including a new series from Times business reporters, “Patient Money.”
