Most Newbie CEO Award Goes To Jeremy Wright

jeremy wrightJeremy Wright of B5Media, and author of the book Blog Marketing was mentioned by one of his Venture Capitalists as being the Most Newbie CEO Award.

When Brightspark Ventures and JLA did the b5 investment, we talked a bunch about Jeremy as the CEO. We decided that we were going give Jeremy the shot and set our expectations accordingly. What followed has been some oops, ouch (bet that hurt) and yowsa but to our extreme delight, Jeremy rocks. In terms of personal growth, he has been amazing. In terms of the company, ahead of plan, below expenses are the summary points. The VC community talks a bunch about “the people” and “investing in people”. Jeremy is a pleasure to work with and simply reaffirms the notion that, in the end, it is all about the people.

I can’t imagine being a CEO of any company let alone a massive growing blog network. But high fives to Jeremy Wright, and the entire B5Media family. From what I can tell its all a learning experience, and we live and we grow. It’s been fun to watch B5 grow.

Rabbi Mulungu Santa’s Gift To The Blogosphere

Rabbi Mulungu Santa is bringing something nice to the Blogosphere. It’s a multimedia gift. As soon as I can get an idea of what it is he brings you might want to keep an eye out for the lighting of the Traditional Afrikaan Chanakah Tree, and the feast of Rudolph although it probably won’t be as entertaining as opening your fancy gifts it should be pretty fun.

New Media 100: Josh Schachter

josh schachterIt was really tough to get started with this list. But really I didn’t have a problem picking one of my favorite innovators to start up this list. Josh is an amazing innovator who was named MIT’s Technology Review Magazine’s Innovator of the Year for 2006.

Most people don’t know who Joshua Schachter is. But as of recently, when the popular social bookmarking service he invented (known as del.icio.us) gained its 1,000,000th registered user, there are clearly plenty of Internet users who are familiar with his handiwork. In December 2005, del.icio.us was acquired by Yahoo and last week, out of a field of 35 innovators all aged 35 and under, MIT’s Technology Review Magazine named Schachter its top innovator of the year. While I was at the conference, I had an opportunity to catch up with Schachter to find out more about him, his (or should I say Yahoo’s) del.icio.us service, and what he’s doing now that he is a Yahoo employee.

Josh Schachter is a brilliant mind who has brought so much to the New media space just in creating delicio.us, not just that but he’s also the cofounder of GEOurl and Memepool. Simple tools that have changed the way we reach out and consume information.


Josh Schachter is 901am’s 100th most influential person in New Media.
