a list apartAre you looking to improve your writting style. Usually I just point you over to CopyBlogger and that’s it. Today I have a few other places to point you to as well as someplace I need to go study for awhile.

My favorite piece of advice given to me by one of my friends is being clear to your readers.

Experienced web professionals read ALA. If you dumb down your article, you will offend these readers. But our readers come from many backgrounds—a reader who knows all 317 CSS workarounds might not necessarily have heard of Edward Tufte—so take time to define your terms and provide pertinent background information, if only as a link.

Providing your readers with a little bit of background will help keep readers on your site. Instead of sending readers away try ways to be a little more indepth, provide background information, and some biographical information to new readers. It’s really key in developing a solid readership and a relationship with your readers. Just be mindful that not everyone who stumbles onto your site is actually already as knowledgeable about the subject you are talking about.

Bloggers keep scooping

lockhart steeleIn a world of break it first and break it often. It’s all about the scoops. And one guy with the pulse on the scoopwire is Lockhart Steele.

Ben Leventhal and Lockhart Steele are a pair of bloggers fighting a guerrilla war against the city’s publicists.

Nearly every day, the two provide restaurant information on their popular Web site, Eater.com., posting tidbits that publicists aren’t ready to release and traditional journalists haven’t managed to print.

Thanks to an army of hungry tipsters, Leventhal and Steele are irking restaurateurs, chefs and reporters alike with their timely scoops. They have broken stories about restaurant closings and the comings-and-goings of chefs, and their success has led to a new venture in Los Angeles, entitled Eater La.

YouTube on TV

youtube on tvNetgear at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas has unveiled a new media adapter that allows users to access Youtube videos on a regular television.

Using the Youtube application programming interface (API) that Youtube has made available to developers, the device allows users to browse the most popular Youtube videos using a remote control. They can also search for videos and select users whose videos they want to track.

The Digital Entertainer HD is the first device that makes Youtube videos available on a television, claimed Netgear’s vice president of product marketing Vivek Pathela.

Now all we need is a bit of DailyMotion and I can get rid of cable all together. Hard to know but this is a very nice bit of news.
