What a Blog Is Really For

I’ve been reading blogs for a long time. It’s been awhile since I read a blog post and it was entertaining. Someone’s story was entertaining, not just educational. Until this morning. I came across a blog post that explains How to build your own super villain hideout.

This is truly what blogs are for. Cool FAQ’s on how to build super villain hideouts. We all know we wanted to be comic book heroes instead we just became boring bloggers who don’t really do anything late at night except blog. One summer way way long time ago I lived in an abandoned house that was in really good shape. That’s about the coolest super villain stunt I ever pulled.

This guy sure knows how to have an adventure and how to share it too.

Behind the raging horseshoe falls of Niagara there lurks a dormant monster, a century old redbrick tunnel painstakingly laid. There is no recorded tally of its human cost but in 1906 it would be the biggest tunnel of its type in the world. Like the secret hideout of a supervillain it defies belief and comprehension, a stronghold behind the crashing waterfall. To rappel through the treacherous bowels of a decrepit powerstation is the single entrance.

Bloggers Score Victory In The Senate

Political Bloggers gained a key victory as the Senate shot down a proposal that would have required political bloggers with a reach of over 500 readers to register as political lobbyists.

While I’m not heavy into political blogging, the implications would have stretched even as wide as my other blog where I have publicly endorsed a candidate and get a significant amount of traffic from people searching on Google about the candidate.

The U.S. Senate has shot down a proposal that would have required some political bloggers to register as lobbyists or face prison time for up to 10 years. The Senate approved an amendment that removed the section that would have required some bloggers to be regulated.

The portion that was removed from the bill was Section 220 that would have required people involved in grassroots lobbying to register with the government or face criminal and civil penalties.

Opponents of Section 220 said it would violate bloggers and nonprofit groups freedoms that are protected by the U.S. Constitution. Some of the groups opposed where from opposites ends of the political spectrum. The American Civil Liberties Union and Gun Owners of America were both in agreement over the issue.

I like Viddler

The interface is pretty slick, sharing is pretty easy. Overall one of the slickest video hosting services I’ve seen on the web. And its located right here near 901am HQ.

That video I’m using as a sample is pretty slick too. I had to pick myself off the floor a few times. Not the first time Devin has done this though. I think he went to the viral video learning center. I like the fact that Viddler keeps it simple. And has done a good job of allowing users to upload larger files than YouTube and others.

My favorite feature is the ability to leave comment/tags right on the video and to be able to link directly to that part of the video. This is something I’ve long wished for in just about every other video hosting service out there. Hopefully Viddler will go a long ways to gaining some traction on the web.

AOL Kills The LongTail

weblogsincAOL doesn’t have the time,money, or patience to deal with the Long Tail. Atleast according to Valleywag. For whatever value that holds in the real world. That’s like Marketwatch quoting Jack of All Blogs. Oh that’s right they did that.

My guess is AOL would rather funnel its money into highly profitable ventures like Engadget, TV Squad, and Joystiq.
Most likely this signals the end of AOL’s short lived local blogging experiment as well.
