More Photos Being Taken With Smartphones

Smartphones are getting slowly but surely replacing other devices as it continues to improve on its features and become more powerful. For example, point and shoot cameras and video cameras are being replaced by smartphones. This is according to research conducted by NPD, a market research company.

The NPD study was made on US adults and the data collected revealed that 27 percent of photos taken by the respondents were taken with their smartphones. The usage was up by 10 percent from last year. On the other hand, photos that were taken using point and shoot or stand-alone cameras dropped by 8 percent – from 52 percent to 44 percent. Google Buys 217 Patents from IBM

Google is absolutely serious about strengthening the company’s portfolio. The company just announced that it has bought a large number of patents to add to its growing portfolio of patents. According to a report published by SEO by The Sea, Google has bought 188 granted patents as well as 29 patents with pending applications from IT company IBM. The purchase of the patents were officially completed last December 30, 2011.

Google’s purchase of the 217 patents now gives the company the ability to use or take advantage of technologies applied in a wide range of fields – from telecommunications, mobile networks and even blade servers. [Read more…]

Acer, Lenovo May Release Windows 8 Tablets This Year

With Microsoft releasing its newest operating system, Windows 8, by the second half of 2012, various hardware manufacturers are now preparing to release products that will coincide with Microsoft’s product release.

Two big manufacturers that are planning to launch products that will coincide with the Windows 8 release are Acer and Lenovo. There are talks that these two manufacturers are preparing to release Windows 8 enabled tablets powered by Intel processors by the third quarter of this year. [Read more…]

AT&T Reveals 3G pricing for PS Vita

One of the cool features of the PS Vita, Sony’s new handheld gaming console, is 3G connectivity. This allows for online features to be built into the Vita without the need for WiFi. Of course, with a 3G feature, it’s logical that that this new console will be offered through mobile service providers.

Last year, Sony said that the PS Vita will be offered through AT&T. No further information were given up until this week when AT&T finally revealed the details of the PS Vita 3G service. The plan is actually similar to what AT&T already offers. [Read more…]

Google Allegedly Preparing New 7 Inch Android Tablet

Rumors are buzzing again about Google getting into the tablet market.

According to a report posted by DigiTimes, Google is supposedly in the midst of creating a new 7 inch  tablet that will be operated by Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The tablet will allegedly be more affordable than the $200 Amazon Kindle Fire, which is the hottest tablet in the market today, after the Apple iPad. [Read more…]
