With Google activating 160,000 Android smartphones a day, you would think emperor Steve at Cupertino would be nervous about the search Titan’s rise in prominence.
But despite the various Android phones hitting the market, Apple is still outselling their green rival 3 to 1.
Apple® today announced that it has sold over 1.7 million of its iPhone® 4 through Saturday, June 26, just three days after its launch on June 24. The new iPhone 4 features FaceTime®, which makes video calling as easy as one tap, and Apple’s new Retina display, the highest resolution display ever built into a phone, resulting in stunning text, images and video.
“This is the most successful product launch in Apple’s history,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “Even so, we apologize to those customers who were turned away because we did not have enough supply.” (PR Newswire)
Basically Apple is selling roughly 567,000 iPhone’s a day compared to Android’s 160,000 activations which is 3.5 times greater than Google’s mobile OS.
While the search engine king is still maintaining its own (in second place nonetheless), this news will not please the Google giant as it will convince more developers to choose Apple’s walled garden over Android “open forest.”
Although Google is still committed for the long haul of the race, they may need to rethink their strategy, especially with Microsoft launching Windows 7 mobile in October.

I guess I’m not sure about this post. Iphone will always have an extremely good new launch because if I want a new Apple mobile experience I will have to wait all year so when it comes out everybody rushes to get it (it’s like starving a family). I think a bigger question is how many of those people are current Iphone users. Also we all know that 567,000 won’t stand much longer, I think here we just divide 1.7 mil by three. Also that 160,000 figure comes before the EVO came out. But we need to see yearly figures, because there is going to be like 8 new Android phone before a new Iphone comes out again, it’s what will allow Android phones to sustain but mostly likely increase Android sales, I mean Android sales went from 60,000/day in Feb. to 160,000/day now (mostly more now after the EVO). Even Metro PCS is getting an Android phone. But I don’t think we can call anybody the winner yet.
