Apple has announced the iPhone 5 and, frankly, I wasn’t really impressed with it. There was no feature announced that people didn’t already knew from the unprecedented amount of information leaks about this new iPhone that the media reported. It was a ho-hum product, to say the least.
What I got excited about, on the other hand, are the newly redesigned iPod Touch and iPod Nano.
First off, the iPod Touch has now been made more colorful, hearkening back to the iPod Mini in terms of color selection. The color is really just relegated to the back plate so no worries for people who may be a little allergic to colorful devices. You can choose from black, silver, yellow, blue and pink. The new iPod Touch has a 4-inch Retina display, which is the same display on the iPhone 5. It has an olderA5 processor (the iPhone 5 has an A6 processor), which makes this device really fast and zippy. It also has a 5 megapixel iSight camera that can shoot 1080p videos and also do the new Panorama mode. It’s a slimmer and thinner device as well, when compared to the last gen Touch. An interesting addition is a hidden button on which you can attach a plastic wrist strap. I’m not too sure about how effective or useful this strap is going to be though.
The iPod Nano has undergone a radical makeover, eschewing the square form factor and going back to the candybar shape of previous Nanos. The new Nano is 50 percent thinner than previous generations of Nanos. It has a 2.5 inch multi-touch display that can easily play widescreen video. It has an FM tuner with a live pause feature and will come in black, purple, silver, green, yellow, blue and pink. The Nano will also come pre-installed with a pedometer and Nike+ support, which is an indication that this is going to be marketed towards the fitness buffs.
Both the iPod Touch and iPod Nano will be outfitted with the new Lightning connector and will also ship with the newly announced EarPods.
