The tablet war between Amazon and Barnes & Noble commenced earlier than expected with the both companies breaking their own street dates for their respective products.
Amazon announced that it will be shipping its hotly anticipated Kindle Fire tablet a few days before the original release date. Barnes & Noble, smelling that this could potentially derail their own plans have also announced that it will be releasing their Nook Tablet a couple of days before the original release date of November 18.
Barnes & Noble announced that people who preordered their Nook tablets can now get them by Wednesday (that’s today), with the general sales of the tablet happening tomorrow. People who ordered the device online are also expected to receive their Nook tablets today. Of course, there have been reports of some people getting their devices even a day earlier, Tuesday. This is really shaping up to be a war of attrition between the two companies.
The Kindle Fire, which started shipping a few days ago, is one of the hottest devices to come out this season. But it got mixed reviews upon release mainly because of the unfair comparisons to the iPad that a lot of buyers are making. The Nook tablet is the true competition of the Kindle Fire and from early reviews that are coming out, it looks like it is faring more favourably compared to the Kindle Fire.
For both the Kindle Fire and the Nook tablet, the main factor that is going to affect consumer purchase is the price although this is going to be a difficult thing to do as well because even though the Nook tablet is slightly more expensive it does offer more specs wise.
