From Jensense, The Authority on all things Adsense:
Publishers have often complained about the rigidness of the AdSense policy that prevents publishers from running AdSense on the same page as another contextual ad program. So running AdSense & Yahoo Publisher Network on the same page during the same page view would be a no-no, but rotated 50/50 would be perfectly within the AdSense (& YPN) policies and terms. But not any more. Their competitive ad policy has gotten much, much tighter when they updated their AdSense policies today.

Their competitve ads & services policy was updated to this today:
Competitive Ads and Services In order to prevent user confusion, we do not permit Google ads or search boxes to be published on websites that also contain other ads or services formatted to use the same layout and colors as the Google ads or search boxes on that site. Although you may sell ads directly on your site, it is your responsibility to ensure these ads cannot be confused with Google ads.
Seriously as a publisher this makes me want to think of new ways to get out of the adsense machine. How is it that they can tell me how and where to run ads and how and when I can’t run competitors ads? It’s really irritating if you ask me. I really don’t like one company telling me how to run a business. And then having to depend on them for my income.
If I was Google I almost wonder if they like the Bad PR Storms they seem to get themselves into.

You know, I really agree with Google here. I mean, I personally only watch ABC and FOX because of the commercials that they serve. NBC, on the other hand, runs abhorrent commercials and should be avoided at all costs.
I, for one, applaud Google for this move, simply because when I’m browsing, I am offended if I even see YPN ads on a site.
I instinctively seek out Google ads to click on, and I know your average Internet Joe does too, especially when redirected from a bogus ad on Craigslist.

Ok,
I really have to pick myself up off the floor now.
Seriously is this the most ridiculous thing Google has ever done or what?
I really can’t think of the or what at the moment. It’s so arrogant. It reaks of narcissistic behavior.
Where is mother’s nipple anyhow?

I think you’re right as Google are only going driving an even bigger wedge between itself and it’s users.
I’m also on a mission to reduce my reliance on Google. I will be replacing my sidebar ads this evening with blogads as I have finally got an invite!

No Google taking legal steps against using its name as a verb was even more stupid. But this is close..and very annoying.
