Samsung Galaxy S2 comes with TouchWiz, a custom UI layer that makes the device stand out among other smartphones running Android OS. Besides its noticeable benefits, TouchWiz has another advantage which is less known by users: it supports many shortcuts and commands that help you get more out of your device. Next you’ll discover 10 cool tricks that will make you like your Galaxy S2 even more.
- Take a screenshot quicker
With Galaxy S2 you can take a screenshot with fewer commands than with other Android-based smartphones: just press and hold the Home button and then press the Power button, and you’ll have a screenshot. To view the screenshots you’ve taken go to the Gallery.
Â
- A simpler way to switch browser tabs
Galaxy S2 lets you switch browser tabs by pinching. When you are surfing the Internet, pinch out and you’ll see any other tabs that are open besides the current one. With pinch out you can also open a new tab.
Â
- Change the default font
Supporting custom fonts, Galaxy S2 allows you to change your default font without having to install any other app. All you have to do is access Font Style settings in Screen Display and download custom fonts online. Also, three fonts are already installed besides the default one and you can select and use any of them.
- Jump to a home screen more easily
Because it supports as many as 7 home screens, TouchWiz can make it hard for you to jump between screens. Avoid this problem by using pinching: an overview of the home screens will be displayed and you’ll be able to quickly jump to the one you need.
- Adjust brightness through the notification bar
There’s a simpler way of adjusting brightness on Galaxy S2 than by going to the screen settings. Hit the notification bar, holding it for a moment, and then swipe right to increase brightness or swipe left to decrease it. Note that this feature will only work if Auto Brightness is disabled.
Â
- Transform the Menu button into a search key
Sadly, Galaxy S2 lacks the search key that other Android-based smartphones have. However, you can transform the Menu button into a search key: just press it for a few seconds and a search menu will pop on the screen.
- Slide quicker
In the home screen you can quickly slide through screens by rolling your finger on the bottom of the display, just over the dots. This practical feature also works when you’re in the app list.
Â
- Lock the screen when watching videos
While playing a video you can press the Power button to lock the screen. You may want to do this in order to hold your Galaxy S2 in any way you like during video playback without having to worry about pressing a button accidentally and stopping the movie.
Â
- Make a call quicker
Galaxy S2 has a functional quick dialing feature. Instead of going to your contact list each time you want to call someone, just spell the name of the person you want to call in the home screen and the contact list name will appear and you can make the call with fewer commands.
