The intensified effort to fight global online child pornography resulted to the arrest of 9 people and 98 suspects in Canada. What is more horrifying is that some of these scums are teachers, sports instructors and social workers who have easy access to unsuspecting children and parents.
Although the effort is really praiseworthy, I dare not call it successful. So far, only customers were arrested and none for producers. The max penalty for possession of materials related to child porn is only 18 months. Then again, what happened to those 98 suspects? Sad to say, authorities are winning some battles but not the war.
The initiative to fight atrocious crimes started in Australia in 2006 known as “Operation Koalaâ€. Today, international authorities are probing thousands of people residing in more than 30 countries and have implicated more than 2,500 people worldwide.
What is lacking today is a more active involvement of the public sector in pinpointing these sex offenders.

Scum’s a bit strong a word for downloaders, wouldn’t that word be better applied to the people who are getting kicks out of creating or selling it?
