Nomadishere has managed to perfectly verbalize the conditions any worker should ideally be able to control to work happily (but not necessarily most efficiently). Here are 4 of the 8 things.
#1. Let them work when they want
#2. Let them work where they want
#3. Let them control their lighting
#4. Let them wear headphones
#5. Do not expect them to wear a suit
#6. Do not make them participate in company events (unless you are sure it is geek-friendly)
#7. Do not hold a lot of arbitrary meetings that could have otherwise been handled through email or IM
#8. Do not make them do anything other than work
Definitely visit Nomadishere for an elaboration on all of these things.

These are so true they are funny. Even down to the “Sure.” when interrupted. Being a geek who was required to participate in corporate team building sessions (as a manager), those just drove me around the bend. How about just give me the $200 a head you paid and let me go nuts buying geek toys?
Hmm, this geek thinks it’s nap on couch time.

Muhammad, I have a feeling that you and I can both agree that geek or not, a happy employee is a more efficient one. ;)
