If you’re an avid fan of all things superhero, and are always found with your head in a comic book or watching your favourite superhero movie, then you will no doubt be a fan of this list we’ve put together of 6 of the best apps out there for mobiles or tablet devices that are perfect for self confessed comic book geeks.
1. Comics by ComiXology
We couldn’t start this list with any other option really, as this is dubbed as one of – if not the – most popular comic book apps, as it’s a free digital platform in which you can read all your favourite comic books. Thanks to its many free offerings, an extensive library, and growing collection of comic books available on the same day as their printed alternatives, ComiXology has helped transform the comics industry.
2. Madefire Comics and Motion Books
Motion Books are changing the way in which fans read comic books on their electrical devices, as they are adding to the excitement and adventure with the use of sound effects, music, 360-degree viewing angles within a panel, and characters flying in from off of the page. This free app from Madefire Comics and Motion Books is basically the closest experience to watching a movie you can have by reading a comic book.
3. Zap-Kapow!
Described as ‘A Guide to Comic Books in your Pocket’, the Zap-Kapow app is a must-purchase for those who want to make some money out of their passion and hobby; and start selling their books. It has a criterion in which you can search for your selected book, and you can start to determine how much they are worth, in a well organised way.
4. ComicBook!
If you’re always reading comic books, why not explore this passion in a very different way…perhaps by making your own! This app allows you to do just that. Using your photographs and a wide array of comic styled image filters, captions, and multi-panel layouts you can create your very own supernatural world in which you’re the hero!
5. Comic Geek Speak
Take a slight break from all the reading with us on this one, as this is a comic book app with a very big difference – there’s not a comic book in sight. Instead, there’s an archive contained on it full of podcasts of comic book enthusiasts all talking about our favourite topic…yep – comic books.
6. Comic Zeal
There are a lot of different comic book readers out there for your devices, and when we were checking them out, we found this to be one of the most useful and user friendly. Comic Zeal enables you to import your entire collection via Wi-Fi, DropBox, iCloud Drive, AirDrop (OS X Yosemite and iOS 8 only) and iTunes file sharing. Once imported, you can organize your comics any way you like.
After all that reading, it’s a good idea to remember to look after your eyes, and even think about going for an eye test. After all, even most of our favourite superheroes sport a pair of specs! Just check out this infographic for proof!
