If you’re at retirement age, or you know someone who is, then you’re likely concerned about staying safe during the pandemic. Although everyone is at risk from covid, older adults are some of the most at risk. Despite the first vaccines arriving, there are no guarantees against this deadly virus.
To avoid catching covid-19 as the pandemic continues, follow these tips.
Get Vaccinated
It’s important that you get vaccinated as soon as you can. If you’re exposed, the vaccination will help protect you from getting ill. Although there are no guarantees, it’s certainly worth the added protection of knowing you or your family members will be less likely to get seriously ill.
Most states have started offering vaccinations to citizens over 75 years old. In many places, you can make an appointment ahead of time. If you’re not sure where to get vaccinated, call your doctor, and they’ll likely be able to give you the right information for where to get vaccinated.
Continue Wearing Masks
You’re likely already feeling the effects of the isolation that the pandemic has imposed on our lives. As much as you might like to continue life as we knew it, it’s important that you continue taking the same safety measures.
The best thing you can do for yourself and others is to wear a mask. Make sure that it’s covering your mouth and nose and that anyone else around you is doing the same. Masks are not a magic shield but rather a tool for slowing down the spread of the virus.
Spend Time Outside
No one is asking you not to see the people you love ever again. Consider spending time outside with friends and family at a safe distance wearing masks in the fresh air. Follow your state’s guidance rules which are based on the outbreak numbers in your area. It’s advised only to spend time with people who are within your pod or are members of your household.
Watch For Symptoms
It’s easy to mistake any symptom for a potential COVID sign. However, it’s important to stay vigilant. If you notice that you have any symptoms of COVID, it’s important that you self isolate. Watch for signs of fever, coughing, sore throat, and loss of taste. If you feel any sort of respiratory issues, contact your doctor to ask what they recommend. The last thing you want is to continue the spread of the virus if you are indeed infected.
Move Around
Don’t make the mistake of sitting at home and waiting for this all to blow over. COVID shows no signs of slowing down. As a senior citizen, it’s important that you stay active and move around. Get outside whenever you can and move your body. If the weather isn’t favorable, you might want to consider doing something in your home like an exercise DVD.
